REM stands for Rotaract European Meeting and is a recurring conference that gathers 400+ Rotaractors in a European city twice a year. This years winter REM took place in Sofia, Bulgaria!
All REM-conferences have different activities, but the agenda usually looks like this:
Thursday: Extra activities & Opening Ceremony
Friday: Extra activities, plenary sessions, & Country Booths, Country Call and Welcome Party
Saturday: E.R.I.C Meeting, social project, extra activities and Gala Dinner
Sunday: Departure
On Friday, most of our delegation travelled down to Bulgaria and arrived just in time to join in on the afternoon city tours and plenary sessions. Fun fact: we had the biggest Norwegian delegation at a European Rotaract event in many years at REM in Sofia!
In the evening it was time for one of the REM highlights: the country booths. This is when all of the attending countries get to set up a table with their local drinks and food to share with the other participants. We brought Kvikklunsj chocolate, brown cheese and some local Norwegian liquors.
After the country booths it was time for the country calls, where all 35+ attending countries are called up on stage, followed by a welcoming party.
Saturday morning it was time for the E.R.I.C Meeting, where all the country representatives and the European Rotaract Board shares updates, discusses and votes on relevant topics. Our club president Maria also presented on Rotaract in Norway and our upcoming event Nordact, that will take place in September.
Meanwhile, our other club members did a rakija tasting and a city tour.
In the evening it was time for the highlight of every Rotaract Europe event: the gala dinner! Everyone gathered in the venue at 18:00 for photos by the photo wall and an opening ceremony with speeches, and then a three course dinner was served before we danced the night away (rumor says some Norwegians closed the dance floor at 04 in the morning).
Thank you to everyone for attending and representing Norway at this event, the next official European Rotaract Event will be EUCO in Bucharest 15-19th of May 2024. See you there!
